Dzisiejsza
wizyta w Brukseli to już drugie w tym roku spotkanie Arnolda Schwarzeneggera z
Jose Manuelem Barroso. W styczniu wzięli razem udział w międzynarodowej
konferencji w Wiedniu i najwyraźniej zapałali do siebie sympatią. Bo choć Jose
Manuel Barroso nie wygląda na atletę, to w polityce tak, jak Schwarzenegger lubi
prężyć muskuły. Dlatego poza rozmowami o ratowaniu środowiska, Schwarzenegger
oficjalnie przyjechał bowiem do Brukseli by przekonywać burmistrzów europejskich
miast do inwestycji w ekologię, w kuluarach spotkania nie mogło dziś zabraknąć rozmów o klimacie politycznym, bardziej lub mniej
sprzyjającym obydwu Panom w ich dalszych karierach.
Tajemnicą
Poliszynela w Brukseli jest fakt, że obecnemu szefowi Komisji Europejskiej
marzy się fotel Sekretarza Generalnego ONZ. I jak przystało na Barroso, który
Unią "rządzi" już drugą kadencję, na marzeniach się nie kończy...
Według doniesień jego rodzimej, portugalskiej prasy, w Stanach Zjednoczonych za
Barroso lobbują już jego ludzie, m.in. nowy ambasador Portugalii przy ONZ
Alvaro Mendonca e Moura i ambasador UE w Waszyngtonie, Joao Vale de Almeida.
Swoich ambicji politycznych nie ukrywa
również Schwarzenegger. Pod koniec drugiej kadencji Georga Busha w Stanach
Zjednoczonych spekulowano, że ówczesny gubernator Kalifornii byłby jego godnym
następcą. Z pomysłu jednak zrezygnowano, bo wymagałby wprowadzenia zmian w konstytucji,
która obecnie pozwala zostać prezydentem tylko osobie, która urodziła się na
terenie należącym do USA. Z tych samych powodów, jako Austriak, Schwarzenegger mógłby
jednak spróbować swoich szans w Europie i jak się spekuluje w 2011 roku, gdy
kończyła się pierwsza kadencja tzw. Prezydenta UE, Hermana Van Rompuya podobno
przymierzał się nawet do jego fotela. Europejscy przywódcy na kolejne 2,5 roku
wybrali jednak Belga, ale jego druga kadencja wkrótce również się skończy, a
Terminator przecież nigdy nie daje za wygraną. W swojej autobiografii Schwarzenegger napisał,
że jego życiowe motto brzmi: "Zapomnij
o planie B", czyli zawsze myśl, że uda się plan A”.
W Brukseli żartuje się dzisiaj, że może to właśnie
Egzekutor skutecznie poradziłby sobie z kryzysem gospodarczym w Europie. „Ludzie mówili mi, że z moim nazwiskiem i
akcentem nie mam szans w Hollywood i zostałem aktorem, potem mówili, że jako
aktor nie mam szans w polityce i zostałem gubernatorem Kalifornii..teraz mówią,
że nie wygram walki o środowisko, a ja Wam mówię, że wygram” , przekonywał dziś
w Europarlamencie. Dobrze przygotowany na zielony podbój Europy nie dał się nawet
zaskoczyć dziennikarzom i pytany o to, czym jeździ przyznał: „wciąż hummerem..ale silnik zamieniłem w nim
na elektryczny.. Nie powinniśmy sprawiać by ludzie czuli się winni, że jeżdżą
szybkimi czy dużymi samochodami, powinniśmy mówić im, że istnieją technologie,
które są lepsze dla środowiska i korzystanie z nich sprawia, że jest się
jeszcze bardziej nowoczesnym i seksownym…”. Seksowność dla 66 letniego aktora/polityka nie
przestaje być ważna. Może tak brzmiała dziś właśnie jego rada dla Barroso,
który choć 9 lat młodszy, dziś pozostawał w cieniu Terminatora.

Terminator
in Brussels...
Today’s
visit in Brussels was the second meeting of Barroso and Schwarzenegger
this year. Last time they met during an international conference in Vienna in
Januray. And they must have started to really appreciate each other. Maybe
because, athough Barroso doesn’t look very athletic, he likes to
show his political muscles…and this could be the reason for other than environmental
talks between the two men in Brussels today. Because, although Schwarzenegger might have come to the
heart of Europe to persuade European mayors to invest in green technologies
and cut CO2 emissions in cities, but behind the scenes the talks could involve the very Political
climate, more or less friendly for the future careers of the two politicians.
There
is no secret in Brussels about the aspirations of Barroso to become the next
Secretary General of the UN, and as an experienced leader who governs the EU
for the second term now, apparently he doesn’t loose time and already checks up hic
chances. According to Portugal press there are already two people lobbying for Barroso as the future head of UN: ambassador of Portugal to the UN,
Alvaro Mendonca e Moura and EU’s ambassador in Washington, Joao Vale de Almeida.
Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn’t hide his political ambitions neither. At the end
of George Bush second term, there were many speculations that the
Hollywood star was planning to stand for the presidential elections. But the idea
was soon dismissed as it seemed to be too complicate to execute it. As Schwarzenegger
was born in Austria and not in the US, his candidacy would require the changes
to the US constitution, according to which only US-born citizens can try to become
the President. For the very same reasons though, the Austria-born
actor could try his chances in Europe and might have already considered it back in 2011 when the first
term of the President of the EU Council was coming to an end. EU leaders
decided however to leave in the chair for the next 2,5 years Belgian, Herman Van
Rompuy, but his second term will soon be finished again and ”Terminator” never
gives up…In his autobiographybook Schwarzenegger confessed that his life motto
is: “Forget plan B, always think that
plan A will work out”.
Hence, there
have been some joking in Brussels today, that maybe “Executor” is what Europe
actually needs to finally get over the economic crisis.
“People used to say that with my accent and long surname, I will never make it
to Hollywood, and I’ve become an actor, then they said that as an actor I will
never make it into politics, and I’ve become the governor of California…now
they say that I will not win the fight for the environment and I’m telling I
will”, he said in the European Parliament today.
Well prepared for the
fight with climate change, he smothly replied to journalist question about his big cars:
“Yes I still drive my hummers..but I changed their engine for electrical one.
We should not make people feel guilty of
driving fast or big cars but make them know that they can participate in technology
that is better for environment and at the same time more modern, more snappy
and more sexy…" Because “to be sexy” for a 66 year old actor/politician is still
important. Who knows, maybe this was the advice he gave to Barroso today…as 9
years younger EU leader was totally overshadowed by the Terminator.
